Bungalow Addition in Fort Worth, TX
The Project
The Pershing Avenue bungalow had what a lot of 1920s Craftsman homes have: a beautiful front facade, great original details, and a back half that had been through too many informal additions over the decades. The kitchen was a confusing series of additions made over 50 years. The primary bedroom was adequate but had no bathroom attached.
The owners were clear: don't touch the front. The porch, the built-ins, the original trim — all of it stays. The project was entirely focused on the back of the house: tear out the informal additions, and replace them with a clean new addition that added a real primary suite and rebuilt the kitchen from scratch.
We designed a single-story addition that extended the back of the home by 18 feet. The new square footage went to a primary suite with a walk-in closet and a double-vanity bath, and to a kitchen that finally had enough counter space to cook in.
